Environment Assets

Here are some of the first sketches for environment assets for the project. Since the levels will be randomly generated, it's a hard task to design not too generic looking assets.

Melee enemy: The Candy Crusher

Concept of the melee enemy of our project. This guy is a walking fortress with a lot of health points and a good damage output but he is slow.


This is the process I've been going through. It started with a first idea and by continuously getting input and feedback, I've changed different parts of the design to come to the final piece.

Kamikaze Update

I redesigned the Kamikaze enemy. It has a power battery on its back and two power nodes on its tummy. It will plug-in into machines or creatures to provide energy for them. If you come near the Energy Kamikaze, it will try to charge you but on finding out you're not a machine it can charge, it will explode instead...

Stationary Enemy

Well here is a stationary enemy design concept . I've spend a lot of time in sketching different ideas and talking about them with my team mate. Finally I've come up with this version.
It will attack the player on distance with the mini gun on its head but can also deal a lot of damage in melee combat by biting the player.



Since the concept of the stationary enemy got a little bit too overloaded with details and has too much different functions, I've tried to give it one simpler function. It's now only attacking the player with melee attacks and is not able to shoot.

Material studies

To get better in digitally rendering out all kinds of different materials I've done some animal skin studies. I've participated  to the "all other Monday exercises" from the concept art site cgcookie.com
The line drawings were given and I had to render them out with use of photo references.

Protagonist Paperboy

Here are the first Concepts for our main protagonist, the guy you are going to play in our game. We decided to take the very left one. I will upload a finished and polished version of him soon.

He will get a robotic arm in the finished concept. 

The next step was the designing process of the mechanical arm of the character. I've tried out a lot of different forms and we decided to use a clean and easy readable design.



And here is the nearly finished main character. Now only the melee and the ranged weapon mode of the mechanical arm have to be designed.

Kamikaze Enemy Concept

Today I made some concepts for the Kamikaze enemy we want to implement in our game. It crawls quickly to the player and explodes. When you kick the enemy in the right moment, you tear off his explosive slime-ball and kill him with that. Then you can use the ball as a bomb by shooting on it.

This creature brings you in to tricky situations...


Later I did more enemy design sketches. The one in the bottom right could also be our Kamikaze enemy.

Creature Design 01

So here are the first concepts for creature design for our new semester project.
We plan to build a rogue-like, randomly generated game experience within the next 3 months.


some ideas of the first enemy that will encounter the player in the very beginning
Batiaclarus: half fish half robot, swings his laser shooting lantern on his forehead. You better do not underestimate this  clumsy looking fellow.



I also tried something really different. Those overgrown human mutants for example.

the color codes should symbol different enemy types like ranged or melee attackers.
